WHPS GRANT PROGRAM
The Wisconsin Hardy Plant Society will award up to $1500 to a community group, school or religious institution for a project that promotes the use of hardy plants in the landscape. Grants can only be awarded to nonprofit organizations that hold 501(c)(3) status. Projects must be located in Wisconsin or in the counties of Illinois, Iowa or Minnesota directly adjacent to the Wisconsin state line. Funds may be used for educational purposes and plant materials only. Priority will be given to projects that educate children within the ages of five to eighteen by emphasizing the benefits of hardy plant gardening and its contribution to the sustainability of our environment. Priority will also be given to organizations that have not received previous donations or grants from the WHPS.
The calendar for consideration of grant requests has changed. From now until January 16, 2026, grant applications can be submitted at any time for the 2026 garden season. The applications will be retained and, after January 16, the grant requests will be reviewed competitively as a group by the Board members of the WHPS or a subcommittee designated by the Board. Grant awards will be made no later than March 31, 2026. The number of awards will be based on funding available at the time.
If a grant is awarded, a progress report is required six months after the award funds are received. A verbal report of your project may be requested at the December annual business meeting of the WHPS.
